PHOENIX, Ariz. — The AZGOP and the RNC have formally called on Secretary of State Adrian Fontes to ensure the full implementation of voter registration reforms passed in 2022 under H.B. 2243. The law requires the use of juror questionnaire data to identify and remove ineligible voters from the voter rolls, specifically those who have attested to being non-U.S. citizens or non-Arizona residents.
A recent report from the Secretary of State’s office raised concerns that these reforms are not being fully enforced. Despite over 700 juror questionnaires indicating non-citizenship, no follow-up notices have been issued to voters, and fewer than 10% of those who reported non-residency have been contacted. The AZGOP is calling for immediate action to uphold the integrity of Arizona’s voter rolls.
AZGOP Chair Gina Swoboda issued the following statement:
“Ensuring the accuracy of our voter registration rolls is fundamental to protecting the integrity of our elections. The people of Arizona deserve to know that only eligible voters are casting ballots. We are calling on Secretary Fontes to fully implement the reforms that the Legislature passed two years ago and to ensure that our election laws are being followed in every county.”
The AZGOP has asked Secretary Fontes to confirm that the juror questionnaire data is consistently being collected and shared with all county recorders, as well as detail any steps being taken to address the gaps in implementation.
